Story: 1/08/10 - Handsome Howie got his name when he howled for three days straight when first coming in to rescue. He was in so much pain from the neglect of his health. He was approximately 7 years old and was a sweet soul who didn't ask for much but some TLC and maybe a bite of your hamburger. He made an impression on everyone, could out walk most humans because his legs were so long and just kept the house a little warmer with his love. He recently suffered from congestive heart failure and had difficulty getting up and about. He is missed by his people and his furry companions alike.
Story: 12/01/09 - We pulled Richie from a crappy shelter in Hannibal Mo. 2 1/2 yrs ago. Heartworm positive and bone skinny, he raced for our pickup, realizing his salvation.
He survived the treatment but was not adoptable due to joint issues and the fact he bit
some people when he first came into rescue. We decided to let him live his life out here. He learned to love us and forget about biting. He was just diagnosed with cancer and left us. He had a good life here, even went to Co. a couple of times. I just feel sorrow for all the suffering he endured. He was a special dog to me. He would melt in my arms when I pet him and would always drag himself upstairs at night to be with us, even though it was a struggle.
Story: 10/26/09 - Sweet Buddy was brought back to rescue 5 years after his initial adoption. Little did we know that he only had a few short months before he was unable to even stand anymore. Buddy was the definition of a gentle giant. He was a big lover of belly rubs. He spent his final days getting the love and care he deserved from Phyllis and Jon. He touched many hearts and is greatly missed.
Story: This is Dozer. He was brought into rescue from a shelter although we did not know his past we wanted to give him another chance. He was a very sweet boy but unfortunatley toward the end he had gotten very aggressive towards animals and us. It really broke our hearts. We miss you dozer. Rest in Peace Buddy.
Story: Rest in Peace Hatch.
We miss ya!
Story: Say a prayer for this sweet rescue, who crossed over Rainbow Bridge today.
She was brought in in Nov. after being held in Manhattan Ks. for a year, due to her previous owners trying to starve her to death. She had also been abused. Slowly she began to open up and we realized what a great dog she was. She was adopted a few months ago and loved these little children. She was a true nursemaid, never leaving their side. Today she was put to sleep because of Cancer.
Story: Big Samson came into rescue July 3rd of 2004, with his breeding mate, Delilah. They spent the first 4yrs. of their lives in an 8'X1' cage set on cement. Their only purpose was to breed. She was sweet and got adopted quickly. He was never socialized and being a huge dog, spent the first 6 months in our basement. We got to know his gently side and began walking him out with our dogs. Gradually he got used to them so we brought them upstairs. He fought with every dog we brought into rescue until he got used to them. It was a fear response on his part. We learned so much from that dog about handling these big guys. He was not adopted by the public as he put up such a tyrade when we took him for the home visit. We adopted him in 2006. He bloated in Sept. of 2006 after a trip to Colorado, however, he had the best time in Colorado, due to a 12" snow storm in which he frolicked like a pup over the hills. He took a piece of our hearts when he left. Hope to see him again.
